If drivers had used common sense over the years, we wouldn't have these ever changing HOS rules they keep cracking down on. You know when you are tired and wore out. If a driver nods off even once it could mean their life or someone else. A load of anything isn't worth that! There are all kind of factors that can make you tired and need rest. Traffic, weather, stress at home, moron customers that want you to continuously move your truck to different docks while you are trying to sleep. If you try to live your work time by a log book, it makes your job very hectic. And even more dangerous than if you just use common sense. One thing I would like to see is drivers be paid by the hour. I have only seen a pay increase of about 4 cents per mile for entry level drivers over the past 15 years. That's ridiculous! If you check out the hours worked and factor in everything, that's chicken feed! A driver that operates a 80,000 lb vehicle with maniac 4 wheelers all around him, delivering products that keep America going, should be making more than a kid at the local McDonalds!
